Community Partners
The West Lane Emergency Operations Group is made up of 6 members and 21 associated members that come together to form a unique intergovernmental organization. These members represent the different organizations who will support response and recovery efforts in the event of a disaster in western Lane County. Below you can find a list of each of these members, as well as a brief statement about the organization and a link to their website if available.
WLEOG Members
The City of Florence is one of the primary responders for local disasters, as our local government entity. They play a crucial role in the planning and managing of our community’s disaster response and recovery.
– Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians Tribal Police Department
“The Emergency Preparedness Program works with other Tribal Departments – particularly the Tribal Police Department – to develop Emergency Preparedness capacity…In addition to preparedness at the individual and household levels, integration and interoperability with the emergency response networks within the Tribes’ area is being emphasized during the development of emergency preparedness” – CTCLUSI Tribal Police, Emergency Preparedness
Dunes City is one of the primary responders for the area, and similarly play an imporatnt role in the planning and managing of localized disaster response and recovery.
As our local hospital, Peace Harbor Medical Center plays a vital role in our local disaster response and recovery, and furthers preparedness efforts through their own regular drills and support of local preparedness efforts.
The Port of Siuslaw, as a special government entity seperate of the city and county, support local preparedness efforts through their participation with the City of Florence and WLEOG, and relationship with the Siuslaw River Coast Guard.
– Western Lane Fire and EMS Authority
Western Lane Fire and EMS Authority (WLFEA) “proudly serves our community and visitors with quick, safe, efficient, and effective delivery of emergency services and community education, with the highest standards of excellence and compassion.”
WLFEA is the primary entity activley responding to local natural disasters, and are crucial to the planning and managing of our community’s disaster preparedness, repsonse, and recovery.
WLEOG Associated Members
The American Red Cross supports disaster response and recovery nationwide. Florence is located within the American Red Cross Cascades Region, the headquarters of which are located in Portland. Within that region, Florence is located within the Southwest Oregon chapter. Locally, we have active Red Cross volunteers who are dedicated to supporting their community and first responders in the event of a disaster.
Greentrees is a 55+ manufactured home community located in Florence. They are actively involved in local preparedness efforts, and work closely with local emergency management officials to ensure their community is prepared for any disaster.
– Florence Area Chamber of Commerce
The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce works with WLEOG to ensure our local businesses are prepared for disasters and will support the rebuilding of our local economy in the wake of a serious disaster.
– Lane Community College Florence Center
– Swisshome-Deadwood Rural Fire Protection District
The Swisshome-Deadwood Rural Fire Protection District (SDRFPD) is a volunteer fire department in western Lane County that supports that remote towns of Swisshome and Deadwood.
The West Lane County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES)/Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) is sponsored by the Oregon Coast Emergency Repeater Inc. (OCERI), a nonprofit organization that supports emergency radio services. They also support Central Oregon Coast Amateur Radio Club (COCARC), a local ham radio club.
Camp Baker is a boyscout summer camp located along Siuslaw Lake. Camp Baker’s location and size makes it a local mass gathering site. Their participation with WLEOG ensures they are prepared to host a mass gathering site if necessary.
The Oregon Coast Humane Society is a no-kill non-profit animal shelter located here in Florence. They will provide a valuable service to local pet owners and their animals during disaster response and recovery.
– Florence Emergency Cold Weather Shelter
The Florence Emergency Cold Weather Shelter “provide[s] shelter and assistance to the unhoused population of Florence, Oregon, on the coldest, wettest days of the year”. They are an essential emergency support service active during our regular extreme weather events.
The Siuslaw School District’s invovlement in WLEOG ensures that our local schools are prepared to support students and their families when disaster strikes.
Lane County Public Health’s mission ” is to promote and protect the long-term health and well-being of individuals, families and our community. [Their] vision is optimal health for all people in Lane County.” They are involved in emergency management efforts across Lane County as the county’s overseer of public health.

“The Oregon Department of Transportation has an important supporting role in emergency response and disaster recovery. “The mission of Oregon’s Health Security, Preparedness and Response (HSPR) Program is to develop public health systems to prepare for and respond to major, acute threats and emergencies that impact the health of people in Oregon. – United States Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River

Cascadia Coastal Coalition is a nonprofit based in Florence, Oregon. The mission of Cascadia Coastal Coalition is to promote disaster readiness, response, recovery and resilience in support of Pacific Northwest coastal communities.
– West Lane Emergency Communications Network
The West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a coordinated effort to enable individual neighborhoods within Florence and surrounding areas to communicate with… WLEOG[‘s] Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during an emergency that leaves conventional communications paths, such as land-line telephone, internet, and cellular telephone systems, damaged and unworkable.
